  • Born around 1825.
  • Learned dancing from “Uncle” Jim Lowe, who performed in Saloons and dance halls.
  • In the 1840’s he started to perform on his own in New York.
  • Known for his best dance move the “Juba”, derived from the African step dance called Giouba, but the Juba was am ix of Irish Jig and African steps.
  • In 1845 he toured with three white men called Georgia Champion Minstrels and had top billing.
  • Know as “King of All Dancers”.
  •  In 1848 he traveled to London to perform until 1851.
  • Died in 1852.
